Masha and the Bear
Once upon a time, in a quiet village, there lived a Papa dog and a Mama dog. And they had a little girl puppy named Masha.
One fine day Masha and her friends decided to go to the woods, to pick some berries and mushrooms.
"Mama, Papa, " said Masha, "please let me go to the woods with my friends!"
"Alright, just don't get too far behind or you'll get lost."
The young puppies came to the woods and started to gather nature's treats. Masha, tree by tree, bush by bush, wandered far away from her friends.
She started to howl and call them. "Woooooof! Ayyyyyyyy!" But nobody could hear poor Masha, nobody answered.
Masha ran and sniffed about, and came to the very heart of the forest. All of a sudden she saw an izba (cabin). Masha scratched on the door but nobody answered. Then she pushed the door and it opened. Masha cautiously entered and sat by the window.

"Who lives here? How come everyone is gone?.." wondered Masha
In that izba lived a huge bear. Only he wasn't home: he was walking around the woods. In the evening the bear returned saw Masha and rejoiced:
"Agha!" he said. "Now that you're here I'm not going to let you go. You will live with me. You will keep my house clean, and cook and feed me." Masha whined and cried, but what could she do?
The bear would leave for the woods during the day and forbid Masha to leave the hut while he was gone.
"And if you run away," he said, "I'll catch you and eat you for sure!"
So Masha began to think how to escape from the bear. The woods are everywhere, where to go she wouldn't know, and there is nobody to ask... Masha thought and thought and an idea came to her.
The bear returned from the forest and Masha told him:
"Bear, let me go visit my home; I'll bring Papa and Mama some treats."
"No," said the bear, "you'll get lost in the woods. Give me the treats and and I'll bring them myself."
And that's just what Masha needed.
Masha hunted up some goodies, took out a big basket and said to the bear: "In this basket I'll put the treats, and you bring them to Papa and Mama. But remember, don't eat anything on your way. I'll climb up a tree and will see everything.
"Alright," answered the bear, "give me the basket."
Than Masha said:
"Go
out and see if its raining or not."
Just as the bear left, Masha and climbed into the basket and put the treats on top. The bear returned and saw the basket was ready. He picked it up and headed for the village.
The bear walked among trees and climbed grassy hills. He walked and walked, got tired and said:
I'll stop and eat
A tasty treat.
But Masha yelled from the basket:
I see the sight,
Don't take a bite!
Bring it to Papa,
Bring it to Mama!
"Oh, how quick-sighted she is," said the bear. "she sees everything!" The bear picked up his basket and started on his way again. He walked and walked, walked and walked, and walked. Than stopped sat down and said:
I'll stop and eat
A tasty treat.
But Masha spoke again.
I see the sight,
Don't take a bite!
Bring it to Papa,
Bring it to Mama!
The bear was very surprised. "She is clever! She sits up high and sees far and wide!" He got up and hurried on. The bear came into the village, found the house where Masha's Papa and Mama lived, and started knocking on the door with all his might.
"Knock! Knock! Open up! I brought you treats from Masha."
The other village dogs sensed the bear and came after him. From every house they cam running and barking. The bear got frightened, set the basket down and ran for the woods without looking back.
Papa and Mama came out of the house and saw a basket standing there. "What could be in here?" wondered Mama. Papa opened it and couldn't believe his eyes! There was Masha - alive and well.
Papa and Mama were delighted! They called their little girl smart and kissed and hugged her!
